From Streets to Internet

In  Philadelphia, 1959, a man started to do graffitis with his name on subway trains. Than, others begun to copy him, tagging their names on bus stops as well. One of them, became the king of the streets. started to tag his name on subway trains wherenever possible. After that, another guy interested in a girl, painted his ‘tag’ on as many bus stops as he could and quickly he become the king of the streets  (“Graffiti Lives: Beyond the Tag in New York’s Urban Underground”).

The government, saw this actions as vandalism and started to clean the railcars. As a consequence, street artists begun to take photos of their work. Some magazines, begun to show what was happening with the street art in New York and other US cities; putting some of the street artists like stars. ( While you were sleeping , 12oz Prophet etc). All of this, gave the possibility to the weld, of looking at street art through internet, magazines and social media. When before it was only possible if you were walking on the streets of US. Some projects, as Red Bull Street Art View ,  became very successful, giving some street artists the possibility of being known in the world.

Internet give a lot of chances to street art. Artists, now have the chance to sell and connect. They can use social medias as galleries or museums of what they make. For example, the Saatchi online gallery.
