Apitatan is an Ecuadorian street artist. According to M. Fernanda Lopez J., he is recognized as "the creator of an unmistakable style and a personal that identifies it as it makes its way though the city". He is probably the most recognized artist who has influential street art in Ecuador. He speaks his thoughts and expresses his feelings towards relevant topics that directly affect society. His style is so personal that his art can be recognized to be his without previous knowledge of it.
Apitatan is described as a "juggler of color and an untiring walk" (Lopez). He uses a variety and mixture of intense colors that capture people's attention. He achieves the attention of the passerby, as people actually stop and stare at his work. This is an enormous progress in the street art world: to capture people's attention.
"Aerosol cans, paint rollers, large and small paint brushes" are some of the materials that Apitatan uses for his work. I believe that he and his work represent this era we are living in. He "has built a solid representation of his work by force of presence", which labels him as "the most prominent artist of his generation" (Lopez). Aside from the streets, he is in every social media, and has a webpage that shares all his work and ideals.
I believe Apitatan is the most prominent figure in street art in Ecuador. He has reached further than most Ecuadorians have, and has been able to gain the acknowledgement of the people. As a street art seeker, I am looking for more people like him, who despite the consequences, speak their mind freely to the world in order to transmit a powerful message.
